Green Art Gallery Dubai presents a solo exhibition for Syrian painter Ahmad Moualla

Marking the artist’s third solo exhibition at the Gallery, the exhibition opens on September 19th and will be on view until November 10th 2011. A reception will be held on the 19th of September from 7 - 9 pm in the presence of the artist.

 

Green Art Gallery opens its Fall 2011/2012 program with a solo exhibition for the acclaimed Syrian painter Ahmad Moualla, presenting a new body of large scale paintings.

Ahmad Moualla (b. 1958), a Syrian artist based in Damascus, has become well known for his beautifully-

painted and highly dramatic canvases. Composed on a grand scale, Moualla’s theatrical paintings wrestle with the often strained relationship between society and the individual; his works tackle the power of past and present icons through the increased blurring of the line between reality and fiction, and the conscious and subconscious mind.

Born in Syria in 1958, Moualla is considered to be one of the leading post-modern artists in Syrian expressionism. He was the first to introduce performance in his work, first exhibited at  Atassi Gallery in 1997 with the exhibition entitled “A tribute to Saadallah Wannaous” ( the late Syrian playwright). Moualla graduated from the Damascus University of Fine Arts followed by the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts in Paris. Since then he has participated in various exhibitions in Dubai, Cairo, Paris, Istanbul and Graz (Austria) among others. Recent exhibitions include “Signs: Contemporary Aran Art” at Sundaram Tagore Gallery, New York (2009) and “New works” at Green Art Gallery Dubai (2009).

Exhibition at Grafton Fine Art Show Winners Announced

Show Continues Through September 7 in Historic Grafton, Vermont

Grafton, Vermont --    The fifth annual Exhibition at Grafton organizing committee announces the winners in the juried art show event, which concludes on September 7. One best in show award and four merit awards were given at the artist awards reception on August 27.

The free event, which is held August 26 through September 7, features more than 50 works of art in oils, pastels, watercolors, acrylics, mixed media as well as sculptures in various medium. Art is displayed in Grafton Village at The Old Tavern at Grafton Inn and Hunter Gallery of Fine Art.

While Grafton was hit hard by Hurricane Irene, both properties are intact and the show continues to run. Visitors can access Grafton through Townshend via Route 35 and through Chester.

The juried collection of work was judged by two returning Vermont-based judges: Janie Cohen, Museum Director of the Fleming Museum in Burlington and Jamie Franklin, Curator at the Bennington Museum.
